Job Title: Category Buyer

Locations: Stoke on Trent

Salary: £28 - 45,000

Duties:

  • Maintain and support the procurement system ensuring all contracts are current, signed, and accompanied by relevant supplier policies and key documentation.
  • Implement effective sourcing practices in accordance with policy guidelines.
  • Achieve cost reduction objectives.
  • Manage supplier performance within each spending category, in coordination with the Category Manager, ensuring supplier KPIs are met.
  • Assist in enforcing procurement policy for expenditures.
  • Support the Category Manager and Procurement Lead with higher spending categories and contribute to the development and continuation of the overall procurement strategy.
  • Plan priorities and activities based on business impact, while also accommodating reactive business requirements. Assist Procurement Lead and Category Managers with meeting organisation, document preparation, system uploads, and contract improvements.
  • Make independent decisions regarding work priorities and relationships and organise internal procurement processes. Advise and influence employees on best practices.
  • Engage daily with business stakeholders, with frequent interaction with Legal and Finance functions and occasional interaction with the Executive Team. Provide guidance to individual employees and maintain significant supplier contact.
  • Communicate through face-to-face meetings, phone calls, Teams meetings, emails, and occasional presentations. Interactions range from information gathering to advising managers on procurement issues and making recommendations.
  • Advise on procurement issues and influence managers and employees at the business to agree on procurement steps. Building effective relationships with stakeholders is key to raising the procurement department's profile.
  • Address problems autonomously while seeking line manager guidance as needed.
  • Demonstrate creativity in seeking continuous improvement opportunities.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Has working knowledge and commercial awareness of purchasing and procurement principles.
  • Buyer Experience ( IT / General / Indirect )
  • Experience in Negotiation / Contracts
  • Experience in Category Plans
