The Role:

As Careers Adviser you will support the work of the Careers Department in the delivery and provision of high-quality careers information, advice and guidance to students, helping them to make informed choices about progression, and supporting them towards positive destinations.

Responsibilities as our Careers Adviser will include:

  • Provide 1-1 careers advice and guidance interviews with individual learners adhering to national quality standards, keeping accurate records, and devising action plans where necessary.
  • Supporting students in understanding the UCAS process and making applications to study at HE.
  • Supporting students on CV preparation, employment and apprenticeship applications, liaising with local and national employers to ensure students are provided with accurate and up-to-date information regarding opportunities available and market developments.
  • Facilitate ‘drop-in' and group sessions to students liaising with curriculum on topics and subjects to support students with their progression and career planning.
  • Supporting the Careers Leader in the planning and delivery of careers events as part of the College Careers Education Programme.
  • Attend Open Evenings/Parent Evenings and other external careers events as agreed by the Careers Leader to support impartial careers information and advice to partners, potential and current students, and their families.
  • Supporting students in the use of computer aided CEIAG and Labour Market Intelligence (LMI) packages to help them understand career options and pathways and access information on the current job market and apprenticeships.
  • Develop and maintain the careers pages on the College's VLE including online and paper careers resources to support students.
  • Assisting the Careers Leader in the tracking, evaluation, and feedback of careers services and contribute to ensuring students are fully involved in the development of the service at the College.

As our Careers Adviser , you'll ideally have:

  • Educated to minimum A level or equivalent (BTEC, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
  • IAG Level 4 or equivalent qualification
  • Knowledge and experience offering advice and guidance to young people, proving a good understanding of the range of progression pathways open to young people
  • Proven organisation skills.
  • An understanding of the 14-19 curriculum and progression routes
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Gatsby Benchmarks
  • Competent in the use of IT and Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent Communication Skills both verbal and written with the ability to engage with students and staff.
  • High professional standards and personal integrity in order to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a busy cross College team.
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
