Assistant Accountant

Our client is an outstanding educational establishment that is looking for an Assistant Accountant to join their finance team and support the Head of Finance in the effective running of the finance department. This is a permanent position and full or part time hours will be considered. The role would suit someone who has experience in a similar position and ideally someone who is AAT qualified or working towards a professional accountancy qualification.

Assistant Accountant - About The Role

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will assist in the smooth running of the finance department and deputise in their absence.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain fixed asset register, preparing monthly depreciation journals
  • Bank and payroll posting and reconciliation
  • Assist with budgetary control and the management of departmental budgets
  • Assist with the preparation of annual statutory accounts
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reporting
  • Completion of monthly general ledger reconciliations, journals and accruals
  • Procurement lead

The successful Assistant Accountant will have/be:

  • AAT qualified (or studying towards accounting qualification)
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Supervisory skills are desirable but not essential
