Job Opportunity: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team at a specialist school that provides high-quality, therapeutic, and child-centred education for students aged 11 to 17. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and face Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, along with other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties. Many of our students have experienced significant trauma and adverse childhood experiences.

As an HLTA, you'll play a vital role in supporting these young people. Our approach is trauma and attachment-informed, with a strong emphasis on therapeutic training and support for all staff. We believe in placing the child at the centre of all decision-making, working collaboratively with education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, and local authorities to achieve the best outcomes for our students.

Role Responsibilities

As an HLTA, no two days will be the same. You will be a key figure in the lives of our students, helping to manage complex and challenging behaviours with patience, resilience, and a non-judgmental approach. Your role will involve:

  • Supporting teachers in the classroom.
  • Working with children one-on-one or in small groups.
  • Managing classroom resources.
  • Accompanying students on trips and visits.
  • Assisting children with social challenges during lunch.
  • Managing heightened behaviours and ensuring student safety.
  • Engaging in activities such as board games, science experiments, and creative displays.
  • Celebrating student successes and participating in therapy sessions.

We value the input of our HLTAs in shaping the curriculum and extracurricular activities, and we encourage you to bring your passions and interests to the table.

Benefits and Rewards

  • Extensive training and professional development opportunities.
  • Small class sizes with specialist support.
  • Opportunities for career growth within a growing national organisation.
  • Enhanced occupational sickness scheme.
  • Regular therapeutic and supportive supervision.
  • Life assurance scheme and wellbeing support, including cashback for medical treatments.
  • Recognition awards for service and outstanding practice.
  • Salary sacrifice schemes, including childcare vouchers, technology, and cycle-to-work programs.

Safeguarding Commitment

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we expect all staff to share this commitment. Successful candidates will need to undergo an Enhanced DBS check and other relevant pre-employment checks.

We are an equal-opportunity employer, committed to fostering diversity and inclusion within our workplace. We believe that a diverse team is essential for providing the best support to our students.

If you are a resilient, compassionate, and dedicated individual with a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people, we encourage you to apply here or email for more information.
