Quality Assurance Engineer/Welding Inspector

My client is seeking a Quality Assurance Engineer to be responsible for ensuring that the Company Management Systems comply with both company needs and the requirements of the relevant international standards and codes of practice.
Role & Responsibilities
Ensure the implementation, maintenance, and adherence to quality management systems and engineering standards across the organization.
Main Objectives:
- Ensure compliance with company quality procedures and processes.
- Adhere to applicable codes and standards.
- Meet client requirements and contractual stipulations.
- Maintain company accreditations.
Main Responsibilities:
- Oversee welding and quality-related activities across UK sites, requiring regular travel and extended periods away from home.
- Conduct office-based reviews of contract requirements, drawings, and welding specifications.
- Perform welding inspections and general quality control of site activities.
- Communicate with clients, engineers, and subcontract technicians (NDT, heat treatment) to ensure successful project completion.
- Support supervisors, engineers, and managers throughout the group.
- Confirm customer satisfaction.
- Manage and assist site teams with welding QA activities, including inspection, monitoring, material and consumable traceability, and quality documentation compilation.
- Audit sub-contractor QA documentation.
- Conduct non-conformance investigations and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure a satisfactory quality interface throughout the supply chain.
- Collaborate with different group companies to manage quality-related issues.
Qualifications
Essential:
- CSWIP 3.1
Desirable:
- CSWIP 3.2
- IOSH or NEBOSH
- NVQ Level 4 or higher in Engineering Construction or equivalent
- HNC in Mechanical Engineering or Welding and Fabrication
- IWS or EWS
- ISO 9001 Quality Auditor
- Work within current legislation and company policies.
- Experienced in root cause investigation, proposing improvements, and verifying implementation of preventative measures.
- Implement risk-based QA/QC arrangements and controls proportional to assigned Quality Grade.
- Strong background in Fabrication, Welding, and NDE to National and International standards (BSEN 3834, BSEN 12952, BSEN 13480, ASME IX, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3).
- Experience in gaining and maintaining company accreditations (ISO 9001, ISO 4500, ISO 14001).
- Able to interact and influence at all organizational levels and with clients/third parties.
- Work within current legislation and company policies.
- Experienced in root cause investigation, proposing improvements, and verifying implementation of preventative measures.
- Perform on-site weld inspections and monitoring.
- Compile welding quality assurance documentation to meet company, client, and third-party inspector requirements.
- Manage QA projects on-site.
- Control and coordinate quality-related subcontract activities (NDT, Heat Treatment, Pressure Testing).
- Extensive knowledge of material grades, consumable types, welding processes, heat treatments, NDT methodologies, and acceptance criteria.
Development & Training:
- Develop and nurture team members, evaluate training needs, and provide necessary training.
- Conduct team inductions.
- Identify development needs and organize on-the-job training.
- Understand formal training schemes (Apprenticeships, ACE, Vocational Qualifications).
- Utilize training techniques to train others or organize training sessions.
- Plan personal career development and pursue further qualifications as necessary.
