Electrical Systems Design & Development Engineer - Peterborough (Hybrid) - Up to £40/hr - Inside IR35

Jonathan Lee Recruitment is helping one of the world's leading manufacturers of off-highway machinery and diesel and natural gas engines find a Electrical Systems Design & Development Engineer and the hybrid role comes with a contract rate of £40.00 per hour.
The successful applicant for this position will join the Hybrid/Electrification systems team, which is responsible for the development integrated hybrid and/or electric powertrain systems.
This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting edge HV and LV electrical systems, working at the leading edge of fast-paced development of alternative powertrain technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with process partner teams to gather and develop requirements for RED (Rapid Electrification Development) prototype machines and our in-flight hybrid powertrain development programmes.
- Design and development of the HV and LV electrical systems, for these projects, in alignment with IEC 60204-1.
- HV and LV electrical schematic development.
- Identification and allocation of appropriate ECM I/O to support the HV and LV systems requirements.
- HV PDU (Power Distribution Unit) concept development and design including component selection (contactors, fuses, current sensors, connectors etc).
- Creation of HV PDU validation schedule and activities.
- Participation in electrical system FMEAs, documenting potential failure modes, identifying and completing design and validation actions and managing subsequent updates.
To apply for this Electrical Systems Design & Development Engineer role, your soft skills, expertise and experience should include:
- Strong technical background (good technical degree preferred in mechanical, electronic, electrical, control systems or automotive engineering).
- Demonstrable experience in hybrid and electrification powertrain technologies, including electric motors/machines; electric vehicles; power electronics; HV (>60V) and LV (12/24V) systems; battery and battery management systems.
- Experience of systems integration, testing and validation of electric powertrain systems and components.
- Ability to understand and develop customer requirements and objectives for the design and development of hybrid and electric powertrain.
- Knowledge of systems FMEA and validation plan creation.
- Excellent communications skills with a strong customer focus.
