Trainee Chartered Accountant (ACA)

We are looking for a Trainee Chartered Accountant (ACA) to join a rapidly expanding, award-winning business based in Bishop's Stortford.

As a Trainee Chartered Accountant, you will play a key role in the finance team, assisting with a variety of tasks while progressing through your studies and professional development towards becoming a fully qualified ACA Chartered Accountant.

  • Actively participating in ACA training modules and exams, demonstrating a commitment to professional growth and adherence to ethical standards.
  • Ensuring all financial transactions are accurately reflected in company accounts through regular bank reconciliations.
  • Closing of the monthly accounts and all supporting analyses and reconciliations.
  • Working with the Finance team in compiling Monthly Management Accounts and monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to support decision-making processes.
  • Generating invoices and resolving any related queries promptly to maintain positive client relationships.
  • Overseeing the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable process to ensure timely payments and minimise outstanding debts.
  • Managing the fixed asset register, calculating, and recording depreciation journals accurately.
  • Assisting budget holders in monitoring and tracking the performance of budgets and deliverables.
  • Identification and implementation of improvements in Xero, Zoho, Project Works and Fathom reporting.
  • Implement and maintain best in class financial controls throughout the departments.
  • Preparation of statutory accounts with the Finance Manager, CFO and external advisor support.
  • Identification, implementation and documentation of SOPs for all financial processes.
  • Managing and organising project documentation within company systems for easy access and reference.
  • Entering and maintaining project information in our ERP and CRM systems, ensuring data integrity for operational efficiency.

To apply, candidates will require:

  • Minimum qualification: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field with a strong numerical foundation i.e. Physics.
  • Minimum of 1 years' experience in an accounting practice or financial department within industry (preferred but not essential).
  • Enrolment in the ACA program or willingness to start at the earliest opportunity.
  • High proficiency in MS Excel, including formulas, pivot tables & macros.
  • Experience in Power Query or VBA is preferred but not essential.
  • Basic scenario modelling skills via Excel or other tools.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical judgment.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

In return, our client will be offering a salary of £27,000 - £34,000 (depending on experience), with a range of benefits, of which some are listed above.
