Assistant Land Use & Farming Adviser

Posted by National Trust.

Summary

We're looking for an Assistant Land Use and Farming Advisor to help the National Trust achieve its ambitions for High Nature Status farming and sustainable land management that delivers nature recovery, climate adaptation and carbon sequestration. Our vision is for landscapes with more nature, accessible to more people and addressing the climate crisis. If you'd like to help us get there, we'd love to hear from you.

What it's like to work here

You'll be part of the Trust's internal consultancy: a flexible resource of specialist skills and expertise. As one of a multidisciplinary team of experts, including curators, archaeologists, building surveyors and project managers, you'll be working with others to help make things happen.

As this role covers the Midlands and East of England region, your contractual place of work will be the nearest National Trust office to your home. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We'll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.

What you'll be doing

You'll support our regional Land Use and Farm Advisor Team, in their work with our Property Teams, Estate Management and Farm Tenants to deliver high quality land management advice. You'll work in partnership with our Nature Conservation Advisors and others to support the development and delivery of land use change and management plans. You will provide expert and relevant advice on agri-environmental schemes, helping others to understand the options available to them.

You'll champion opportunities to maximise nature recovery and carbon sequestration through land management.

You'll be supporting the Land Use and Farm Advisors in providing technical advice to local Trust teams on all aspects of managing agricultural land. This includes land we farm and manage ‘in hand', as well as working with farm tenants and others managing Trust land, including commoners.

Who we're looking for

We'd love to hear from you if you're:

  • able to demonstrate good understanding of the different conservation farming and land management systems
  • experienced with and have solid understanding of environmental schemes
  • familiar with farm compliance, legislation and risk management
  • experienced in using GIS (e.g., LandApp, ArcGIS) and data management systems
  • an effective communicator, able to build good working relationships
  • good at listening, building trust and giving a high-quality service to colleagues
  • someone with an eye for detail, good organisational skills and able to work at pace and keep to time
  • a champion of inclusion, who helps support everyone to feel welcome

The package
