SEND Teaching Assistant

Accelerate Teaching is excited to announce an exceptional opportunity at a Secondary Special Needs School in Wakefield. We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join our team in September 2024. This role is perfect for individuals with a genuine interest in supporting students with special educational needs and making a positive impact in their lives.

As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers to provide tailored support to students, ensuring their individual needs are met and that they are able to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Your role will involve creating a nurturing and inclusive environment, assisting with lesson planning, and delivering engaging activities that cater to the diverse abilities of the students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with special educational needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans.
  • Support classroom teachers in delivering differentiated instruction and adapting resources.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Promote positive behaviour and assist in managing classroom dynamics.
  • Facilitate communication and social skills development among students.
  • Help students with personal care tasks, where necessary.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably within a special needs setting.
  • Understanding of various special educational needs and strategies to support them.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting young people.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or special educational needs would be an advantage.
