Warehouse Operator

Our client, one of the largest steel recycling companies in the United Kingdom, is currently seeking a Warehouse Operator to join their team in Cardiff.

With their state-of-the-art facilities, our client has the capacity to produce 1.2 million tonnes of low emission circular steel from UK sourced scrap metal. This is your chance to be a part of a company that is making a positive impact on the environment!

In this role, you will be working in a heavy industry environment, ensuring that all operational procedures for health, safety, and environmental measures are followed.

You will be responsible:

  • To ensure that the pre start inspections sheets are completed at the start of your shift for the crane or FLT or Terburg to be operated via Paper check.
  • Follow the work procedures and to ensure that all hauliers are wearing the correct PPE when on site and are asked to leave if failure to comply.
  • Follow procedures when loading all transport vehicles.
  • To communicate with Team Leader if there is an issue with the stock, recorded and reported by the end of your shift.
  • Complete 5s activities on a daily basis in the area you are working in for the 12 hour shift.
  • Ensure all material is scanned from production to its location when part of the evacuation team.
  • Participate with the Team Leader undertaking Spot Checks with operators that material entering the warehouse is not defective, having the correct number of labels, spaced wire ties, strapping is secure.
  • Rail wagons to be checked once loaded for the correct number of bundles and address any issues before wagons are collected to travel.
  • Follow procedure pull outs for vehicles leaving site.
  • Participate in Audits of operators against procedures set.
  • Assist with investigations of complaints on shift along with Team Leader and Warehouse Manager

To excel in this role, you should have experience in warehousing or a similar role and a strong understanding of health and safety processes.

Good communication skills are essential. Experience of using forklifts or cranes is a strong advantage but not essential. If you have previous experience in this field, it would be highly advantageous.

Requirements for this role include:

- A valid driving licence, as the use of a fork truck on site necessitates it. (However, a vehicle for commuting to work is not required)

This position is a temporary to permanent role, with an hourly rate of £11.78.

Working hours are 12-hour shifts on a 4-on/4-off days and nights pattern.
