Duties/Responsibilities:
- This is a senior post in the Planning Highways and Litigation team, and you will work closely with the Service Director, Legal Services management team and senior officers across the Client to Provide a full range of professional legal advice and assistance to Services, (including Cabinet and Committees etc.) and others with a focus on Planning,Highways, and environmental law combined with flexibility to undertake other local government law related work.
- Provide legal advice to Members and Officers in relation to complex and routine planning, environment, highways and traffic regulation , public rights of way, Town, and Village Greens ; CPO and similar matters including advice and attendance at internal (officer and Member e.g. Committees ) and external meetings.
- negotiation and drafting of complex and routine planning (s106) agreements and unilateral undertakings and highways agreements (s38/278) and orders and similar documents and undertake/assist in relation to challenges to decision making.
- Identify new statute, case law and procedural developments relevant to this post and advise accordingly.
- To undertake planning, highways and rights of way enforcement and advocacy where required.
- To arrange effective representation where appropriate for the Client in connection with Planning, Highways , Public Rights of Way ,CPO and environmental law for example public enquiries and judicial reviews.
- Supervise, train, mentor and manage members of the Planning and Highways team.
- Provide training to members, officers, and outside bodies.
- Support and assist in the commissioning of external legal advice.
- Support and assist the Service Director and the management team with tasks and projects.
- Undertake legal work on behalf of WYLAW client if required.
