  • Hourly Rate: £15.43 PAYE / £17.76 Umbrella
  • Location: Wakefield (WF1)
  • Job Type: Full-time, Office Based, 37 hours per week Monday- Friday

My client are seeking a dedicated Housing Options Advisor to join their homeless duty team in Wakefield. The successful candidate will carry out assessments for homeless or potentially homeless households, identifying barriers and support needs to enable informed decisions to be made. This role is crucial in ensuring the Council meets its statutory responsibilities to people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or in housing need.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Conduct housing options assessments and develop Personal Housing Plans.
  • Deliver housing options advice and assistance.
  • Make third-party enquiries to gather information for case details, involving landlords, lenders, and various organisations.
  • Prevent or delay homelessness through negotiation with housing providers.
  • Provide a realistic appraisal of service users' situations, offering assertive yet sensitive advice.
  • Manage face-to-face and telephone interactions with service users in crisis, employing de-escalation methods to resolve conflict.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of homelessness legislation, guidance, and good practice.
  • Understanding of homeless prevention techniques and strategies.
  • Awareness of housing options within the district for homeless and vulnerable people.
  • Knowledge of support and risk assessment techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of welfare benefits.
  • Experience in assessing people's needs with a focus on solution-based outcomes.
  • Experience working with vulnerable clients and managing challenging behaviour.
  • Experience making detailed inquiries in connection with homelessness or housing needs is desirable.
  • Experience supporting clients with welfare benefit claims & appeals is desirable.
  • Proficiency in managing a caseload and maintaining accurate case notes and work-based systems.
