Summary
As Assistant Gardener, you'll be working with friendly team at Llanerchaeron to deliver the day-to-day care of the garden and maintain high presentation standards. This role will include a range of horticultural tasks to develop, improve and look after the garden and contribute to the delivery of projects.
22.5 hours per week, fixed term contract until 22nd July 2026.

What it's like to work here
In this role, you will contribute to the seasonal upkeep of the garden reporting to the Head Gardener. The Garden team is dynamic and friendly and includes four gardeners, an apprentice and a large cohort of volunteers.
Llanerchaeron is a Welsh working estate near Aberaeron. It was home to 10 generations of the same family before coming under the custodianship of the National Trust in 1989.
The house and garden were remodelled in the late 18th Century by the eminent architect John Nash. The garden includes a two-acre walled kitchen garden and pleasure grounds. The kitchen garden remains productive producing both vegetables and fruit together with herbaceous borders, herb beds and a heritage orchard. The pleasure grounds include collections of trees and shrubs, a lake and views out into the wider estate.
What you'll be doing
Daily responsibilities may include assisting with the planting and maintenance of vegetable, cut flower and herb beds, herbaceous borders, fruit pruning and training, shrub pruning and hedge-cutting. You'll work alongside gardeners, and an apprentice and a team of volunteers. You'll interact with the public every day, answering a variety of garden-related questions and talking about what you are doing with pride. We're looking for someone with a practical approach to work, getting the day-to-day work done and a passion for plants. The role can sometimes be physically challenging, and we use a wide range of machinery and equipment to help us get our work done. The use of machinery such as hedge trimmers, strimmers, leaf blowers and pedestrian mowers is essential, but training will be provided.
