Volunteering & Community Manager

Posted by National Trust.

Summary

Are you seeking a challenging but rewarding position? We're looking for an experienced Volunteering and Community Manager who will confidently promote what Morden Hall Park can offer, by engaging with and working through local and community groups and organisations, and by overseeing the delivery of our exciting work with young people in our neighbourhood area.

This is an opportunity to work with diverse communities in the heart of London, with a particular focus on children and young people. You'll promote the positive impact that green spaces, nature and community can have on people's lives. A significant part of the role will also be to grow the opportunities we offer for people to volunteer at Morden Hall Park.

If you think this is for you, we'd love to hear from you.

Salary: £36,270, inclusive of the Outer London weighting allowance currently at £3315 per annum.

This role is required to work with vulnerable groups including children and any offer of employment or volunteering is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

What it's like to work here

Morden Hall Park is a free to access park cared for by the National Trust. It is hugely popular, with a footfall of over a million people a year. We're dedicated to welcoming everyone to explore this great green space, and improving people's wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. The park is just 500 metres from the Northern Line, yet it feels as if you're in the middle of the countryside.

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you'll be part of the leadership team. As leader of the Volunteer, Community and Children & Young People team, you'll line manage four people, and oversee significant outreach to the wide diversity of communities we serve.

You'll take your turn as Duty Manager, which will include some weekend working, including on Bank Holidays. Time off in Lieu (TOIL) is granted for any extra hours accumulated.

What you'll be doing

This is a key position and carries significant responsibility. You'll develop external partnership working, building and sustaining local networks to understand local needs and identify opportunities for collaboration. You'll develop and champion the volunteering opportunities we offer across the communities we serve. You'll have overall responsibility for supporting our existing volunteer workforce, which includes regular briefings and follow up actions to the annual Volunteer Survey.

Morden Hall Park is one of the National Trust's Children and Young People (CYP) Hubs, and so you'll have a particular focus on identifying opportunities for young people (under 25) facing barriers to engaging with nature, beauty and history. You'll have a good understanding of the motivations and experiences of diverse young audiences. You'll build an impressive range of external contacts working with CYP to enhance the range and quality of engagement opportunities we can offer for young people.

Who we're looking for

  • Experience in community outreach, and in developing and nurturing new relationships both with community professionals and with young people
  • Experience of designing programming activity that engages marginalised groups and communities, and people at risk
  • Demonstrable insight into the needs of different groups of young people who live in the local area, the services that work with them
  • Experience of working with volunteers, and volunteer recruitment
  • Fundraising experience
  • Planning and organisational skills
  • Able to effectively communicate, influence and negotiate at various levels
  • Line management experience

Please include a CV and cover letter with your application
