Maths Teacher

We are currently recruiting for a Maths teacher to join a secondary PRU in South East London. It caters for students aged 11-16, who have SEMH and/or diagnosed needs such as ASD and/or ADHD.

You must be able to demonstrate good organisational skills, clear communication skills and can focus upon the needs of all our learners. Excellent personable skills are essential, and you must be able to demonstrate the ability to inspire and motivate our learners in sometimes challenging situations.

Ideally the successful applicant will have previous experience of working with vulnerable and challenging learners, awareness of both primary and secondary curriculum and/or be willing to complete relevant training.

The Maths teacher will take responsibility for providing:

  • High-quality teaching
  • Effective use of resources
  • Improved standards of learning and achievement for all
  • Ensure all lessons are accessible and encompass SEND requirements
  • Bespoke to the needs of each individual learner
  • Offer a nurturing approach to the pupils, with the ability to build a strong, trustworthy relationship

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and implement policies for Maths in line with our school's commitment to high-quality teaching and learning
  • Promote the subject, its importance, and the value that it brings across the school
  • Have a good understanding of how well the subject is being delivered and the impact it has on learner achievement
  • Use this understanding to feed into the school development plan and produce an action plan for the subject, as required
  • Promote learners' spiritual, moral, social, cultural, physical and mental development alongside British values in the teaching of the subject
  • Consult learners, parents and staff about the subject and its effectiveness, and assess the feedback against the school's values, visions and aims
  • Work with the special educational needs coordinator (SENDCo) to ensure the Maths curriculum matches the needs of different learners, such as disadvantaged learners and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)
  • Promote careers education through the subject and ensure that teaching and learning illustrates how the subject might lead to career opportunities
  • Use additional support staff in the subject area to ensure there is a framework for deployments and that teaching assistants are deployed effectively
  • Liaise with our feeder schools on the transition of the subject to Break Through school to ensure that progression is built into the curriculum
  • Liaise with the local authority (LA), SALT, within subject groups on subject-related events, projects and activities

Qualifications required:

  • QTS desirable
  • Unqualified teachers may apply, with evidence of working with KS3 and KS4 and a strong understanding of the National Curriculum requirements
  • Newly qualified teachers welcome to apply
