We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our alternative provision from September. This role is ideal for a compassionate individual who is committed to supporting the educational and emotional development of students within an alternative education setting that will have challenging behaviours and / or some learning difficulties. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of professionals to create a nurturing and inclusive environment that meets the unique needs of each student. Each student comes to the provision for a 16 week programme, and then returns to their normal school. Transitions then take place to reintegrate them so you may be required to spend 2 weeks then into another school. Children vary between KS2 and KS4.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Assist in the planning and delivery of individualised educational programmes.
  • Provide one-to-one support to students, helping them to engage with their learning.
  • Facilitate small group activities and discussions to encourage student participation.
  • Support the classroom teacher in creating a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as required.
  • Assist with the preparation of teaching materials and resources.
  • Help manage classroom behaviour, applying the provision's policies and strategies.
  • Accompany and support students during off-site educational trips and activities.
  • Participate in professional development and training opportunities.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A genuine passion for education and the well-being of children and young people.
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting, alternative provision experience is advantageous as there are challenging behaviours to deal with.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students.
  • Patience, resilience, and the ability to work effectively in challenging situations.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
