Axon Moore is working with a long-established, international FMCG food business supplying the major supermarket retailers. The shareholders seek to appoint a high calibre, experienced Managing Director.

The MD will lead, build and develop a high performing senior leadership team to develop the strategy of the business, to implement this strategy and ensure delivery of the business performance goals.

This will entail the monitoring and analysis of the company's performance and ensuring appropriate course correction through the development and monitoring of appropriate KPIs. The MD will ensure that directors and other senior members of staff have appropriate objectives set and incentive structures in place to motivate and reward delivery of the strategy.

They will drive performance to meet shareholder expectations and will ensure effective representation of the business with stakeholders, across the industry, the local community and the press.

Key responsibilities and competencies will include:

  • Strong leadership of the executive team to ensure the delivery of their objectives to enhance business performance
  • Successful development and execution of a future strategy for the business
  • Inspire, enthuse and engage the organisation to deliver against its mission and strategy
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of the company's day-to-day operations and the supply and value chain within the industry
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of the commercial arena, engaging actively with key customers and suppliers
  • Planning and forecasting - ensuring a strategic long term business plan bought into by all stakeholders; an annual business plan; a robust forecasting process. Effective measurement against appropriate KPIs and financial targets.
  • Prioritisation and allocation of capital resources
  • Recruitment, development and retention of appropriate senior leadership team
  • Compliance - ensuring that the business has robust controls, policies and procedures to ensure that the business complies with all necessary legal, regulatory, quality, equal opportunities, health & safety, financial reporting and fiscal requirements as required by external third parties and stakeholders
  • Ensuring business performance - including profit, cash and return on investment meet objectives of the business
  • Development of a value system and culture within the business that enables colleagues to deliver within their roles
  • Appraisal of merger / acquisition / strategic partnership opportunities

This role will appeal to a highly commercial professional with senior leadership experience within the FMCG sector or food/ supermarket retail, with a good understanding of supply chain, logistics and production environments. They must have a track record of driving innovation and growth in a competitive market and the ability to think creatively and strategically about product development and market expansion.

The successful candidate will be able to provide leadership at both a strategic and operational level and make a significant contribution commercially, whilst not being afraid to roll up their sleeves and get into the detail.
