We are looking for a Deputy Operations Manager to oversee the Port Operations Service for our client, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining high standards, implementing quality management systems, and managing staff and resources effectively.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Ensure the provision of suitable equipment, vehicles, and training for staff to perform their duties effectively.
  • Set and enforce performance standards for staff.
  • Implement and maintain ISO9001 and ISO45001 requirements and drive continuous improvement.
  • Schedule Port Operators and ensure they meet the set standards.
  • Manage peak demand allocation for tugs.
  • Participate in Management reviews and Internal audits of the Quality Management System.
  • Review annual staff self-appraisals for Shift Supervisors and Port Operators, as well as Secretary/Administrators.
  • Monitor attendance and address any issues during shifts.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of the company's vehicles and plant equipment.
  • Maintain vehicle fuelling records.
  • Ensure all work adheres to safe working practices as defined by PHS management.
  • Attend Operational, Health & Safety, Works, and Welfare meetings.
  • Commit to adhering to and improving the quality and H&S management systems.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in operations management, preferably within a port or similar industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems, specifically ISO9001 and ISO45001.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to set clear standards and expectations.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Ability to conduct and participate in management reviews and internal audits.
  • Competence in overseeing staff appraisals and performance reviews.
  • Commitment to maintaining safe working practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
