Our client a finance membership body is looking for an External Affairs Assistantfor their offices in London with hybrid working with office days typically Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Role of External Affairs Assistant

To support the Head of External Affairs and the wider external affairs team in the delivery of the external affairs plan, with a particular focus on supporting led campaign activities, social media and responding to enquiries.

Key Responsibilities

Provide project support to led campaigns including involvement with social media planning delivery and monitoring.

Support the team to update the website and develop and deliver social media content in line with brand guidelines and house style.

Maintain media coverage database, ensuring all relevant mentions are recorded.

Respond to both internal and external queries promptly and constructively, including media queries.

Distribute press releases and statements.

Review parliamentary monitoring to identify pertinent information and opportunities for engagement.

Help to identify new platforms and/or trends in social media, for monitoring the financial services market for new innovations.

Draft proactive and reactive comments based on the key messages and statistics.

Manage the document templates.

Provide administrative support to the external affairs team, including arranging meetings, booking travel and accommodation, maintenance of external affairs planning documents, updating of press contact lists and organising external events.

Person Specification

Essential

A good level of education, to 'A' level or equivalent.

Ability to work on own initiative and be proactive

Good interpersonal skills

Ability to meet deadlines

A good telephone manner

A high degree of organisational skills

Good attention to detail

Excellent standard of English - written and oral

A good standard of numeracy

IT-literate and acquainted with all the standard packages

A team player willing to show a good degree of flexibility

Desirable

Experience of working with the media and crafting appropriate responses.

Experience of managing social media channels, including drafting, editing and scheduling posts.

Experience of drafting and/or editing material for publication.

Some knowledge of the financial services and/or mutual business sector an advantage.
