Linux systems administrator
We are looking for a dedicated, proactive system administrator with strong Oracle linux and RDBMS support to help support our development team.
Hybrid working (Kent head office / WFH)
Responsibilities
- Support our development team with server provisioning, testing, configuration, monitoring and maintenance.
- Manage and maintain our Linux-based hosting infrastructure (VmWare on prem / Vmware backed private hybrid cloud)
- Instantiate a patch management regime to proactively deal with security, updates and configuration changes in line with best practice and operating system (not server) hardening best practice.
- System performance monitoring, alert management, and proactive issue management.
- Provide support for RDBMS solutions in use Postgres/Mysql (including configuration, troubleshooting and backup/restore processes).
- Perform ad hoc and routine tasks including server provisioning using scripting and standard tools (BASH, sed/awk, Ansible etc)
- Work with developers and others to improve continuous integration, system performance and reporting.
- Maintain concise documentation for infrastructure, process, and system recovery procedures.
- Rationalise, administer, test and maintain our backup services in line with BC and DR models.
Essentials:
- 5+ years' experience in Linux systems administration, ideally Oracle Linux 7-9.
- Solid demonstrable understanding of networking including Firewall admin, DNS, network tools and troubleshooting.
- Extensive experience with patch management and system management tools and processes (Ksplice, Cockpit, Systemd)
- In depth experience of package management tools and Linux security objects including SELinux, firewalld, iptables, DNF/YUM
- Practical knowledge of automation tools and system management tools (Ansible, Bash etc)
- Knowledge of web server configuration, troubleshooting and management (Nginx, Apache) including load balance solutions.
- Knowledge of monitoring tools (Netdata, Prometheus, New Relic, Grafana)
- Hands experience of provisioning and managing Vmware
- A proactive problem solving mindset aimed at continuous improvement.
Desirable:
- Experience with AWS hosting and related services (EC2, Amplifiy, Route53)
- Experience with VMware cloud, Oracle VM, Podman or Docker.
- Previous experience with system/platform migration projects
