Payroll Accountant

The Team & Focus of the Role

At Fisher German our customers and clients are at the heart of what we do. We have long standing relationships with many of our clients through the generations (some up to 80+ years). This is due to the trust they have in us to deliver what we say we will on time. We are a multi-disciplinary surveying consultancy with a history to be proud of.

Due to growth, we're now looking for a Payroll Accountant to join the Financial Control Team based in our Head Office but working within our hybrid working policy. This role will suit you if you can demonstrate strong experience in a finance department with knowledge of payroll process, are a strong team player and driven by a high attention to detail. Circa 60% of the business costs relate to people so the core purpose of the role is building analysis and better control processes for these, alongside helping to collate data for submission to our outside payroll bureau.

The role will be based from our Ashby de la Zouch office, it will be full time (Monday - Friday, 9am - 5.30pm) however we can be flexible on start/finish times as long as our core hours of 10am - 4pm are covered.

Duties will include:

  • Detailed analysis of people costs each month with variance analysis against budget
  • Drive forward a project to improve and automate the current processes, collaborating with the People Team, Finance and the payroll bureau
  • Management of people cost data and headcount in the Financial Planning software (Vena) and assisting with budget and forecast preparation
  • Assistance in preparing monthly payroll data for submission to the payroll bureau (4 payrolls, circa 850 staff)
  • Provide insight and analytics to relevant teams
  • Posting payroll costs into the general ledger and assisting with balance sheet reconciliations for the relevant accounts
  • Assistance with ad hoc projects and tasks as necessary (i.e acquisitions, system upgrades, tax initiatives, etc)

The successful candidate will have...

  • Experience in improving systems and processes with a strong drive to get the best out of our systems
  • Previous experience gained either working in a payroll environment or in a finance role with exposure to payroll processes
  • Exceptionally high attention to detail
  • Be a strong team player with the ability to work to your own initiative
  • Excellent communication skills at a variety of levels
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, specifically pivot tables, formulas, V- lookups, IF statements
  • Experience in financial modelling in Excel would be an advantage
  • Confident with a friendly personality
