Refuse Collector

I am currently recruiting for a Refuse Collector on behalf of my client, a leading public sector organisation based in Huddersfield (HD1).

Your main responsibility will be to work as part of a team collecting waste from households and businesses. You will need to work safely, ensuring you use equipment appropriately and follow procedures for the collection, loading, lifting and handling, disposal of waste in compliance with service standards.

Duties of the Refuse Collector will include:

  • Collect refuse from bins or bags presented at designated collection points or from households that require assisted support. Return bins without causing obstruction in line with expectations.
  • Collect garden, other bagged waste, bulky items; assist with skip collections and provision of liners as required.
  • Safely operating lifting equipment and undertake work in line with risk assessments and operator's guidance.
  • Assist in stickering and provision of information to the public on refuse collection arrangements.
  • Undertaking other cleaning duties, support waste sort arrangements and delivery of new bins as required.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience of carrying out physical demanding work
  • Numeracy and literacy skills to complete basic documentation.
  • Able to input basic data onto IT systems.
  • Knowledge of health and safety and types of practices which need to be put in place to do work safely.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

This post is full time 37 hours per week, working a 4 day week Monday to Thursday 7am start until 5 pm. Pay rate is £12.18 per hour PAYE.
