Band 6 Midwife

Description:

  • Be responsible for being part of the core team on a day-to-day basis and ensure dynamic risk assessments for women, birthing people, and staff are effective.
  • Maintain a high standard of midwifery care through planning, implementing, and evaluating the needs of all women and birthing people to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality care.
  • Provide care throughout the pregnancy continuum, with a specific focus on intrapartum and postnatal care.
  • Demonstrate competencies in undertaking waterbirths, perineal repair, and cannulation.
  • Confidently recognize and manage obstetric emergencies and transfers to the labor ward setting.
  • Support the developing role of the midwife by contributing to the change process through leadership, research, audit, education, training, and clinical practice.
  • Maintain a high standard of record keeping.
  • Stay current with evidence-based midwifery practice, liaising with the wider multidisciplinary team when care falls outside of guidance.
  • Liaise with the Midwife Coordinator and attend daily site meetings as required.
  • Be part of an on-call roster to support the unit when in escalation. This includes ad hoc support to the labor ward, triage, and the antenatal/postnatal ward.
  • Exhibit leadership skills for all midwifery staff within the department, maintaining clinical/professional competence and credibility.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience at Band 6 within the NHS.
  • Demonstrated evidence of clinical practice and working within the birth center setting.
  • Ability to manage and undertake all clinical roles within all clinical settings, including waterbirth, perineal suturing, and intrapartum care.
  • Knowledge of current local and national midwifery agenda and priorities.
  • Engage empathetically with clients about treatments and procedures, ensuring they feel understood and supported.
  • Demonstrate an enthusiastic, approachable, and friendly demeanor, fostering a positive environment.
  • Understand own Knowledge and Skills Framework, identify learning needs, and actively participate in learning activities, keeping detailed records.
  • Work within set timeframes, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines while monitoring the quality of work.
  • Use all midwifery skills in various settings, participate in health promotion activities, accurately record patient assessments, and perform essential midwifery procedures, including handling obstetric emergencies.
