Senior Data Privacy Counsel - Software Business

Our client is a multinational tech company, who have global operations within 23 countries and are one of the world's largest software suppliers. They are looking for a Senior Privacy Counsel, to join their team, they are offering hybrid working, a competitive salary and bonus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in reviewing, maintaining, and promoting the data privacy compliance framework managed by the Legal Privacy Office, including the Personal Data Protection Policy and related procedures and guidance documentation, and in developing new procedural and guidance materials.
  • Aid in developing and maintaining external-facing Trust and Security Hub, privacy notices, consent notices, and data protection precedents, and support other Legal team members on contract negotiations requiring subject matter expertise.
  • Identify key privacy risks for business stakeholders, explain the risks and potential mitigation steps, and escalate and obtain risk acceptance as necessary.
  • Provide expert input on:

o GDPR Article 30 records of processing activities

o GDPR Data Protection Impact Assessments

o Management of GDPR individual rights requests

o Privacy risk incidents, including personal data breaches.

  • Support product and engineering teams in designing services and products with privacy by design principles.
  • Advise product and marketing teams on the use of cookies, similar technologies, and digital advertising technologies.
  • Contribute to managing the data privacy operating model, including participating in Regional Privacy Meetings and supporting the Regional Privacy Lead and Data Protection Champion networks.
  • Serve as the primary group contact for supporting European Union local Legal and Data Privacy contacts.
  • Develop and deliver training and awareness materials to colleagues throughout the business in collaboration with other members of the Legal Privacy Office.

Must have:

  • UK Qualified - Strong data protection legal knowledge combined with, at least, five years post qualification experience advising corporate organisations either in a private practice or in-house team, with a preference for in-house experience.
  • Business oriented, operationally focused, and familiar with new technologies, with a familiarity of, and a curiosity for, topics such as ad tech, AI, and machine learning.
  • Able to work autonomously in a fast moving, complex and ever-changing environment, and prioritise work tasks effectively.
  • Strong communicator, able to explain complex and technical concepts to business colleagues in easy to understand and relevant terms.
  • Ability to identify, focus, and prioritise key issues and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
  • Experience using privacy management tools such as OneTrust.
