Overall purpose of this role of Senior Accountant

To provide a professional financial accounting service to the ICAEW and its related subsidiaries, which inspires the confidence of management, Board, Council, and members in the reporting of financial performance and supports strategic decision-making.

The role supports the Senior Financial Reporting Manager and Financial Controller with month-end reporting, fixed assets accounting, statutory accounts production and acts as a primary liaison with external auditors. This role has a key focus on continuous improvement and efficiencies.

Senior Accountant Responsibilities include:

Preparation of IFRS financial statements for ICAEW Group and its Subsidiary companies including:

  • Day to day management of the interim and year end audit
  • Ensure audit files are uploaded promptly.
  • Liaise with auditors and other finance teams to resolve issues and queries.
  • Ensure year end timetable is adhered to.
  • Escalate issues promptly.
  • Support delivery of overseas local financial statements and year-end audits
  • Production of ESG reporting including scope 1, 2 and 3 CO2 emissions reporting. Working with range of business stakeholders to obtain relevant information on a timely basis.
  • Working closely as required with international bookkeeping providers to ensure correct accounting withing international entities. This will include critical review and feedback on local monthly accounting packs and reconciliations.
  • Day to day management of fixed assets accounting process, to include ensuring that ICAEW adopts the most appropriate accounting policies and estimates (asset lives) and accounts for fixed assets appropriately under IFRS (with special attention to leases)
  • Preparation and /or review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including reconciliation of intercompany balances.
  • Reporting to Office of National Statistics
  • Where changes to IFRS are on the horizon, ensure that all relevant wider team members are aware of the implications for ICAEW, and that appropriate changes are made in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with Finance Business Partnering Team and other members of the Finance team on financial reporting matters.

Senior Accountant Candidate Profile

  • Relevant CCAB accountancy qualification and strong experience in financial accounting and reporting
  • Technically strong, demonstrable experience of dealing with complex accounting matters and application of IFRS.
  • Proactive and committed, with a real desire to help improve ICAEW and team performance.
  • Able to inspire confidence from their peers and directors and build strong, credible relationships.
  • Strong process and project skills and an enthusiasm for change management
  • Resilient with a keen eye for detail and a "right first time" culture
  • Build relationships across ICAEW to develop full understanding of end-to-end processes.
  • Self-motivated and proactive individual with a can-do attitude and the ability to influence and collaborate with colleagues across the business to solve problems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Nav / Business Central / CCH Tagetik Account Production or similar software desirable.
  • Experience of sustainability / climate reporting desirable.
