Service Manager - Assessment Service

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Service Managers to join our Assessment and Intervention Team in Children's Care & Support. In Barking and Dagenham, we recognise the importance of providing support to our community in dealing with issues such as neglect and domestic abuse. We also recognise that the risk of exploitation poses a serious threat to our most vulnerable children and young people. We are committed to developing robust teams and services to tackle these head on. As an assessment Service Manager your role will be central to providing exceptional and creative leadership for 3 assessment teams and making a positive difference to children, young people and their families in our community. You will be required to plan, organise and manage your teams, providing effective operational management and support, as required, delegating this to your Team Managers, where required. You will support your Head of Service to deliver on portfolio commitments. In addition to this, you will oversee all recruitment, service development and individual casework undertaken by your teams. This is a fast pace service, and you will be required to have the experience and stamina to make complex decisions under time pressure as well as managing staff absence effectively.

About you

You will need to have completed a Social Work degree and hold a current Social Work England registration for this position. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and a comprehensive screening process will be undertaken on successful applicants including an Enhanced Children's Department of Barring Services check.

You are a passionate, caring and dedicated Service Manager who thinks outside the box and is able to develop creative solutions. You are committed to relationship-based practice in all your interactions with staff and service users. As a skilled communicator you will have the ability to work with a broad range of people, including working respectfully with children, young people and their families in a truly co-productive way that encourages them to develop their own solutions and to identify what support they require.

You will consistently ensure the views, wishes and feelings of our children, young people and their families are used to inform care plans produced by your teams, ensuring that all cases are safely and efficiently managed to agreed service standards, on time and within budget. Your strong interpersonal skills will allow you to work positively with partners to deliver innovative and integrated services that provide value for money.

You will have an excellent understanding of managing resources and budgets. Your leadership skills and specialist knowledge of working with children and young people will ensure that your teams deliver, learn from good practice, are accountable for their work and are committed to improving outcomes.
