SEN Teaching Assistant

Hays are recruiting a Full-Time Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant in Cardiff for a Special Educational Needs School which caters for pupils aged 11-19 with a variety of additional learning needs, as well as related aspects of challenging behaviour.
This role will involve working with small groups of students between the ages of 13 and 15, as well as occasional 1:1 responsibilities with students who require additional attention or time away from their classmates. The school is highly supportive, well-organised, and well-regarded by the local community, as well as Welsh educational institutions. The excellent staff are caring, passionate, and eager to expand their ranks with likeminded Teaching Assistants / Learning Support Assistants. The teaching team are always eager to support students and fellow members of staff alike.
Your new role.The role is confirmed long-term for a September start, working 5 days a week. Duties relating to this role include but are not limited to:

  • Working with small groups of students aged 13-15 with a variety of moderate and severe additional learning needs and some aspects of challenging behaviour.
  • Demonstrating high levels of patience and empathy when dealing with potentially challenging behaviour.
  • Creating and maintaining a safe and enjoyable learning environment for pupils and staff alike.
  • Assisting teachers as they implement their lesson plans.
  • Working closely as part of a team with other members of the teaching staff.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, it is required that you possess at least 40 days of relevant experience over the course of the last 2 - 3 years. Some of the key attributes and skills needed for this role include enthusiasm, calmness, dedication, patience, and the ability to solve problems effectively when working under pressure.
