Section Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the engineering works within a specific section of the HS2 project, ensuring compliance with HS2 standards, design specifications, and contractual requirements.
  • Supervise and coordinate setting out, surveying, and construction activities on site, ensuring quality control and adherence to engineering best practices.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager, Site Engineers, and other teams to plan and organise resources, materials, and labour.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out safely and in accordance with the relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Oversee the production of accurate and timely reports, including daily diaries, progress reports, method statements, and risk assessments.
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring work is delivered to the required standard and within budget and programme.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings and specifications, identifying any discrepancies and resolving them with the design team.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and promote innovative engineering solutions to enhance project delivery.

Skills & Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in a Section Engineer role on major infrastructure or rail projects.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage and motivate site teams and subcontractors.
  • Proficiency in setting out, surveying, and using engineering software such as CAD and GPS equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of construction methodologies and HS2 project requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and experience in managing technical issues on site.
  • Valid CSCS card and full knowledge of health, safety, and environmental practices.
