I am seeking a Laboratory Technician to become a senior member of my clients team, primarily responsible for managing IRMS instruments. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient operation of the laboratory, particularly within the food testing sector. The successful candidate will have a strong background in laboratory practices and instrument maintenance.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Oversee the SIRA instrument lab, ensuring all operations adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting to prevent downtime and ensure continuous operation.
  • Handle daily laboratory tasks including sample processing/preparation, soxhlet extractions, freeze drying, weighing, and microwave digestion.
  • Assist in scheduling batches to optimise machine efficiency and meet customer requirements.
  • Ensure that all samples received are processed promptly and accurately to maintain optimal turnaround times.
  • Contribute to the smooth operation of the laboratory by working collaboratively with team members and aiding in resource planning.
  • Maintain the laboratory and equipment through scheduled maintenance, calibration tasks, and tracking consumable usage to maintain stock levels.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned, with training provided as necessary.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant field with experience working within a laboratory, preferably in food testing.
  • In-depth knowledge of maintenance and troubleshooting for IRMS.
  • Familiarity with method validation to meet ISO17025 requirements.
  • Broad knowledge of analytical requirements for the food and beverage industry.
  • Proven ability to manage technical services/research outputs timely and cost-effectively.
  • Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong IT skills and ability to handle multiple priorities calmly.
