We are seeking a Payment Collections Officer to join the team at a local authority in Sheffield (with one day required in the office per month and the rest able to do from home) .

The role involves managing debt collection primarily through telephony, both inbound and outbound, and handling a shared mailbox.

This position is critical, and requires someone who can maintain high levels of attention to detail and manage a significant workload.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Conduct debt collection calls for council tax, business rates, penalty charges, and clean air zone debts.
  • Manage both inbound and outbound calls effectively.
  • Handle a shared mailbox, ensuring all queries and communications are addressed promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of interactions and transactions, ensuring all relevant details are logged.
  • Work towards targets and manage a high volume of calls with professionalism.
  • Provide excellent customer service, treating all individuals fairly and working to achieve the best outcomes.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in debt collection of some form is essential.
  • Ability to manage sensitive conversations confidently and professionally.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage a significant workload.
  • IT literate with proficiency in MS Office.
  • Familiarity with enforcement systems such as Civica Collect or OneStep is advantageous.
  • Must be able to train over MS Teams and attend the office once every four weeks.
