Our client, a leading organisation in the public sector, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Media and Communications Officer to join their team on a temporary basis for a period of 3 months. This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented professional to contribute to our client's corporate communications strategy and protect their reputation in the media.

As a Media and Communications Officer, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing effective communication activities to promote our client's policies, priorities, and corporate ambitions. Your expertise will be vital in securing positive coverage, managing media issues, and building strong relationships with internal stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities:

??? Collaborate with senior managers and council members to plan, deliver, and evaluate marketing, media, and communications activities aligned with departmental plans and council priorities.

?? Develop and execute media and communications strategies for allocated portfolio briefs, influencing public opinion and enhancing our client's position.

?? Nurture excellent working relationships with internal departments, serving as their point of contact for communication requirements and providing account management support.

??? Lead in handling media issues, including preparing spokespeople for interviews and escorting senior officials to external engagements.

?? Monitor emerging issues and provide timely advice to senior managers and cabinet members, ensuring our client is well-positioned to capitalise on opportunities and manage negative stories.

?? Contribute to the maintenance of a corporate communications plan, supporting the overarching strategy.

?? Manage budgets and make recommendations on expenditure related to your areas of responsibility.

?? Evaluate marketing and communications activities, making recommendations for improvement.

�? Collaborate with stakeholders, partner organisations, and government bodies to communicate our client's policies and strategies.

??? Write and upload content to our client's digital platforms, including websites and social media channels.

?? Use innovative approaches to proactively promote our client and monitor online discussions about them.

?? Manage project teams and liaise with other departments to foster understanding and adoption of best practises.

?? Occasionally participate in an on-call rota to address urgent media inquiries and provide advice to senior officers and emergency response teams.

Requirements:

? Proven experience in media and communications roles, preferably within the public sector or related industries.

�? Relevant degree or professional qualifications in communications, journalism, or a related field.

?? Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

?? Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.

?? Familiarity with digital platforms, social media, and emerging communication trends.
