In-House Legal Advisor - Motor Industry

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000

Locations: Chelmsford

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced In-House Legal Advisor to join our client's dynamic, leading business. Reporting directly to the board of directors, you will play a critical role in supporting the company's legal needs, particularly focusing on contractual agreements, consumer disputes, and other commercial matters. Your expertise will guide business operations, ensuring legal compliance and contributing to ongoing growth and success.

What we are looking for:

  • Qualified solicitor with relevant experience, ideally in both in-house and private practice settings.
  • 2+ years of post-qualification experience, specialising in corporate, commercial, or consumer law.
  • Proven experience in drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts.
  • Preferred experience in litigation.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to distill large volumes of information into actionable legal strategies.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills; a confident negotiator capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office and Outlook, with the ability to operate independently.

You will be responsible for:

  • Provide expert legal advice on a wide range of issues, including supplier and customer agreements, litigation, consumer complaints (including FOS complaints), and property projects.
  • Manage civil litigation claims from initiation to resolution, including drafting substantive responses, Proceedings, and Particulars of Claim/Defence.
  • Negotiate with lenders on rates, terms, operating agreements, and address any consumer complaints.
  • Advise on legal obligations, assess legal risks, and ensure compliance with internal governance processes.
  • Assist in drafting policies, processes, and legal guidelines to support business operations.
  • Prepare and deliver in-house training sessions in your area of expertise.
  • Oversee and coordinate with external legal service providers.
  • Support compliance and accounts teams with FCA returns and other reporting requirements.
