The opportunity:

Markel Direct has been running for 10 years and targets multiple sectors including IT, Fitness, Therapists, Photographers and Charities & Community Groups.

Caunce O'Hara offers specialist insurance to contractors, consultants, freelancers, self-employed professionals and to the oil & rail sectors.

This role is responsible for overseeing our data systems and reporting frameworks, guaranteeing the integrity and precision of data. The ideal candidate will transform raw data into structured information, which will then be analysed to glean insights that drive strategic business decisions. This position is tasked with enhancing analytical and reporting functions, as well as supervising performance and quality assurance processes to pinpoint areas for enhancement.

What you'll be doing:

  • Monitor/audit data quality & integrity and deduce necessary data-fix corrections
  • Work closely with, and provide support to business to ensure bug-fixes deliver the required data confidence
  • Filter and clean data by reviewing reports and performance indicators to locate and data anomalies / problems
  • Provide consultative advice on the implementation of databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other process / procedures or strategies to optimize data efficiency and quality
  • Mine and analyse large datasets to interpret trends or patterns and present them successfully to management using an appropriate reporting tool
  • Work with senior management to prioritize business and information needs
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to fully understand data content
  • Gather, understand and document detailed business requirements using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Create spreadsheets, data dashboards, graphs and visualisations to convey a data-lead story
  • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities (automation and simplification) in order to increase reporting efficiency

Our must haves:

  • Experience in insurance or financial services sector
  • Possess a solid foundation in statistics and practical experience with statistical software (SQL, Power BI) and mastery in data analysis languages.
  • Exhibit exceptional analytical abilities to compile, structure, examine, and present substantial data sets with precision and thoroughness.
  • Capable of critically evaluating data to derive meaningful, actionable insights.
  • Data extraction, collation and analysis generally
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills able to drive insights out of data
  • Preparation of regular reports in multiple formats for different audiences / uses
  • Demonstrate superior communication and presentation capabilities, adept at simplifying complex data insights for audiences without a technical background.
  • Be able to communicate clearly, especially taking complex data and turning this into easily used and easily understood information for use by colleagues and other stakeholders
  • Collecting data from various sources, performing quality analysis, removing corrupt or wrong data
  • Developing and managing databases
  • Creating database systems and processes for data management
  • Transforming data into a more readable format
  • Assessing the meaning and quality of data through analysis
  • Streamlining data collection methods to create automated and easy-to-use routines
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
