Paediatric Nurse Band 5

The Trust's paediatric team is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated nurses with adult or learning disability qualifications to work on our acute inpatient unit, paediatric day case unit, and paediatric assessment unit. A rotation between all three areas is also available.

Responsibilities:

  • Understands the NMC Code and Trust Policies and Procedures relating to confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills, both verbal and nonverbal.
  • Maintains high standards in record keeping.
  • Demonstrates competent clinical practice.
  • Is accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care without supervision.
  • Identifies the psychological, social, physical, and cultural needs of children and their families, and acts with guidance to meet them.
  • Actively prioritizes and organizes workload.
  • Is responsible for maintaining accurate patient records and has a working knowledge of relevant hospital IT systems.
  • With guidance, uses analytical and judgmental skills to participate in collaborative decision-making within the nursing team.
  • Works in partnership with patients and their carers in decision-making, ensuring their views are taken into account.
  • Recognizes own limitations and practices guided by the NMC Code of Conduct, Scope of Professional Practice, Trust Policies, and Procedures.
  • Understands the effective management of financial and physical resources.
  • Has a working knowledge of the incident reporting system and mechanisms for reducing risk, such as identifying the need and requesting risk assessments.
  • Delivers safe, high-quality, and effective care.
  • Collaborates with patients, families, and all members of the MDT to plan and deliver care.
  • Is receptive to change and participates in activities that bring about service improvement.
  • Aware of and delivers national benchmarks for standards of good practice.

Essential:

  • Experience working with acute/chronically sick children or specialized transferable skills.
  • Understanding of professional and current issues in children's nursing.
  • Understanding of the importance of research and evidence-based practice.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding issues according to Trust policies and procedures.
  • Understanding or evidence of fulfilling requirements for Revalidation.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance principles (e.g., risk management, audit, quality).
  • Experience working as part of a diverse team.
  • Experience contributing to an inclusive workplace culture.
