Learning Support Assistant with L3 BSL Specialism

A prestigious campus is hiring Learning Support Assistants for its Additional Learning Support Team. In this role, you'll support students with learning difficulties, helping them achieve their best outcomes.

Collaboration with curriculum staff is key to ensuring student progress and developing effective coping strategies. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage challenging behaviour are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist students with learning difficulties and disabilities both within the classroom and outside it, addressing their individual needs to facilitate their academic progress.
  • Aid students with personal care requirements as necessary and assist in enhancing their literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Deliver British Sign Language support and perform note-taking tasks to ensure clear communication and comprehensive documentation of lessons.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to plan, prepare, and review learning activities, providing valuable feedback and participating in evaluations to track student progress and achievement.
  • Employ your personal skills to manage and support students with challenging behaviour, guiding them in developing effective coping strategies.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Educational Experience**:** Proven experience supporting students within an educational setting, coupled with a solid understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Additional Learning Support (ALS), and Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Mathematics and English Proficiency: A minimum of Level 2 or C grade in Maths and English is required. You must be committed to working towards an adult learner support or an equivalent qualification if not already held.
  • British Sign Language Qualification: Possess at least a Level 3 British Sign Language qualification to effectively communicate with students who use BSL.
