If so, we have a rare opening for an experienced Payroll Officer to join the finance team within a successful college group based at their Redhill site.

**Salary:**£32,783 - £34,781 Subject to qualifications, skills and experience)

Location: Redhill with some travel to the South Croydon site

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.45am to 5.00pm

Overview of the role:

In this important role you will operate and maintain an efficient payroll service for the entire College Group that is fully compliant with current legislation and internal financial regulations. You will also monitor the implementation of agreed audit recommendations that apply to the payroll function.

Working closely with the Finance Operations Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of the College's monthly payroll, completion and submission of all payroll-related statutory returns and completing Balance Sheet Reconciliations specifically for Payroll.

You will also be a key point of contact for all payroll-related audit work (internal and external) and related enquiries, and to accountable for the calculation and payment of amounts collected as an agent (e.g. to HMRC and the College's 3 pension schemes).

The successful candidate must have:

  • Previous payroll experience
  • Experience completing Balance Sheet Reconciliations
  • Financial reporting experience
  • Intermediate/advanced Excel / MS Office skills
  • Understanding of accounting procedures and double entry bookkeeping would be an advantage
  • Ideally hold experience using Agresso accounts package

Responsibilities will include:

  • To ensure that all amounts paid to staff are accurately calculated, recorded and processed, adjustments made are authorised and appropriate, subjected to appropriate deductions of tax and NI and paid in accordance with the monthly payroll timetable.
  • To ensure that all amounts paid to staff are supported by payslips and payslips are distributed in accordance with the monthly payroll timetables.
  • To ensure that all PAYE, NI, pension and other statutory returns are accurately completed and submitted by the due date.
  • To ensure that all amounts collected as agents, on behalf of HM Inland Revenue, Teachers Pension Scheme, Local Government Pension Scheme and any other body or Institution, are accurately calculated and paid by the due date.
  • To undertake tax and pension year end procedures, prepare returns for HM Inland Revenue, ensure P60's, P11D's and other yearend documents are issued to staff in accordance with yearend timetable.
  • To monitor, record, process, analyse and disseminate payroll data as required particularly in respect of pay costs, staff sickness, maternity and Jury service.
