About the Technology Faculty

The Technology Faculty at the school includes Food Technology, Child Development, Art, Photography, and Design and Technology. Our team ethos promotes collaboration to achieve the best possible outcomes for all students under the leadership of the Head of Faculty.

Key Highlights of the Food Technology Department

  • Strong Performance: Food Technology is a strength of the faculty and the school, with high GCSE take-up and outcomes consistently above the national average. In 2023, the average point score for GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition was in the top 20% nationally.

  • Facilities: The department includes three well-equipped classrooms with interactive whiteboards, multimedia projectors, access to laptops, and a set of stand-alone computers. Class sizes at KS3 and KS4 rarely exceed 20 students.

  • Curriculum:

  • Years 7-9: Students receive 2 x 1-hour lessons per 10-day timetable covering basic nutrition and cooking skills, with increasing complexity each year.

  • KS4: The OCR GCSE in Food Preparation and Nutrition includes a 50% written paper and 50% NEA, with significant practical elements.

  • Child Development: The OCR Cambridge National in Child Development focuses on child development from conception to age 5, with a blend of written and NEA components.

Enrichment

The department offers GCSE catch-up sessions, homework support, and termly interhouse competitions, fostering both academic and practical skills development.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Food Technology Teacher who can:

  • Teach Food Technology up to GCSE level.
  • Optionally teach Child Development at KS4 (desirable but not essential).
