We have a number of exciting career opportunities, including one potential leadership opportunity, within the SSE Enterprise Commercial team to help support the SSE Distributed Energy business and its ambitious growth plans as part of the SSE Group Net Zero Acceleration Plan.

The roles are required to support and deliver the growth of our portfolio of Distributed Energy projects across the energy sectors and provide business customers with bespoke solutions to suit their individual needs.

The opportunities that the Distributed Energy business are developing and delivering are significant and varied. Some of the key and significant areas are:

  • Private Networks for large scale industrial and commercial clients.
  • Behind the meter solutions, including solar and battery.
  • Electric vehicle charging hubs.
  • District Heating Networks for large scale industrial and commercial clients.

Working within the Commercial function, and often within a multi-disciplinary Project Team, this could involve:

  • Support and/or lead on commercial development activities such as:
  • The scoping and negotiation of a bespoke commercial customer faced propositions.
  • The oversight of financial investment models from concept through to financial close.
  • The negotiation of contract terms and conditions, developing price and agreements through to contract award.
  • The assessment of asset values associated with acquisitions.
  • Cost and budget estimating to the required standard and accuracy. Ensure all relevant evidence is included within the estimate to justify to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead or contribute to the negotiation of contracts with clients. This could include charges and tariffs and Power Purchase Agreements, and may well extend to the development of bespoke agreements to cover more complex projects.
  • Support the project teams and Procurement in securing the right supply chain partners.
  • Supporting the Project teams providing a first class commercial service to internal stakeholders, ensuring all aspects of delivery are developed in line with appropriate internal controls and the development of the business case.
  • Supporting the regulatory process in order to achieve successful outcomes.

What do I need?

Candidates are not expected to have all the skills at the outset as these will come with experience working for SSE, however the following are some of the areas of knowledge and experience the Commercial team have and apply:

  • A range of understanding of commercial, contractual, and financial expertise covering the full breadth of the UK energy industry.
  • Experience of working on small to large projects, standard or complex deals within the energy industry, or have experience of preparing and developing bespoke energy solutions for clients.
  • An understanding of the financial aspects and implications of projects along with awareness of the commercial impact of decisions and the implications on project structuring.
  • Ability to demonstrate experience and competency across a range of commercial issues including contract negotiation, financial modelling, investment appraisal, and risk management.
  • Knowledge of relevant statutory and legal provisions.
  • Numerate with experience of interpreting numerical data.
  • Experience of drafting and interpreting commercial contracts and an understanding of the supply chain and how to improve it.
