Senior Full Stack Engineer

We are working with a great London based startup specializing in advising companies, governments, and NGOs on the transition towards sustainability. They help their clients understand this societal shift, what it means for their organization, and how to position for competitive advantage. They combine data, advanced modelling approaches, and social sciences to understand society's reaction to sustainability – across workforces, customers, investors, regulators, and more.

They are a consultancy on a mission to drive sustainability, and at their four-year mark, they have already built a strong portfolio of clients, primarily large, listed corporates across Europe, Asia, and the US.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer with a history of delivering large projects within a startup environment.

What you'll be doing:

Their pioneering approach uses a proprietary modelling tool and integrates tailored models for each client to solve multiple challenges pertaining to sustainability strategy and disclosure. They are already successfully delivering this product to FTSE100 and FTSE250 clients in a variety of sectors from automotive to industrials to distribution. As you help design the next iteration of this system, you will need to consider high availability, high throughput, data consistency and security, but we will count on you to challenge and refine these requirements as well as working to deliver the system. You will be as excited getting your hands dirty across the development lifecycle as you are being a leader and mentor in a world-class engineering team in the longer term.

Day to day tasks include - Collaborating with adjacent teams and the wider company to design, prioritise, develop, and implement software solutions to address complex business issues. Be productive as an independent contributor, able to make pragmatic decisions about development, quickly grasp the nuances of requirements and identify critical decision points for stakeholders. Drive requirements clarity for ambiguous problems and produce technical design documents and project plans. Implement software and infrastructure that is designed and built on foundations of strong security, correct results, and reliable auditability. Ensure data governance, compliance, and privacy are upheld across all data-related operations. Help to establish and evolve the standards and practices of the new Engineering Team.

What you will need to be considered:

  • An established Senior Software Engineer, with a history of delivering at that level, especially in a startup environment where responsibilities can be far reaching.
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in software development and systems engineering.
  • A track record of delivering and maintaining production software systems built using Python and TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • Strong API design skills and a familiarity with building web applications.
  • A proponent of great testing, first-class observability and automating everything.
  • Familiarity with security principles and practices, including authentication, authorization, and encryption.
  • Experience with cloud technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Helm & Terraform) and platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP & Azure).
  • Prior experience in the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) sector, or a deep understanding of sustainability and climate-related issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly in cross functional teams.

What's in it for you?
