Category Buyer

The Opportunity:
A new opportunity has arisen for a Category Buyer to join the Procurement function. You'll play a key role in leading the Corporate Services function developing sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships, and supporting contract lifecycle activities in a fast-moving and purpose-driven organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Category Management:
- Develop and implement category strategies with a focus on cost optimisation and long-term value.
- Lead end-to-end sourcing projects including RFx preparation, evaluation, negotiation, and contract award.
- Manage supplier onboarding in collaboration with internal quality assurance and legal teams.
- Support procurement compliance and contract governance, ensuring internal standards are met.
- Act as a key point of escalation for supplier or contract-related issues.
Risk & Compliance:
- Ensure procurement activities meet all legislative and internal policy requirements.
- Maintain supplier safety and compliance processes, including risk assessments and site protocols.
- Manage commercial due diligence, including contract reviews, and supplier checks.
Reporting & Stakeholder Management:
- Monitor and report on supplier performance, spend under contract, and category strategy progress.
- Manage internal procurement communications to ensure alignment on sourcing timelines and deliverables.
- Work closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders to develop and implement performance improvement plans.
About You:
Essential Experience & Skills:
- Some background in indirect procurement, ideally in outsourced or contract services.
- Experience reviewing and negotiating contracts and multi-vendor strategies.
- Commercially astute
- Self-driven and capable of working independently under pressure.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficient in data analysis and visual reporting.
Desirable:
- Degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field.
- CIPS qualified or working toward qualification.
- Experience in manufacturing, engineering, or related industries is a plus.
- Familiarity with sustainability and ESG procurement practices.
