Teaching Assistant

As a Full-Time Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with two pupils throughout the school day, providing dedicated 1:1 support to help them reach their full potential. The first pupil is a Year 2 pupil who has been identified with a decelerated learning level. The primary area of her EHC plan is Cognition and Learning. They require support in various aspects, including learning, interaction with peers, language, and fine motor skills.

The second pupil is a Year 5 pupil whose main need is also Cognition and Learning. They require assistance with modelling, supporting with instructions, and maintaining focus. Additionally, they would benefit from support in gross motor skills development and social interaction.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalized 1:1 support to the Year 2 and Year 5 pupil, tailoring your approach to meet their individual learning needs.
  • Assist in creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where both pupils feel motivated and engaged.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to implement appropriate strategies and interventions to support the pupils' progress.
  • Help develop and deliver targeted learning activities that cater to the specific areas of need outlined in their EHC plans.
  • Encourage and promote positive social interactions with peers, fostering a sense of belonging within the classroom setting.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to maintain a cohesive and supportive school community.

Requirements:

  • Relevant experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally with experience in providing 1:1 support to students with special educational needs.
  • A genuine passion for education and a commitment to helping students overcome learning barriers.
  • Strong understanding of Cognition and Learning difficulties and experience in implementing appropriate strategies to address these needs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to liaise effectively with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience to support pupils through their individual learning journeys.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or special needs support are desirable but not essential.
