Collections Management Standards Manager

Posted by National Trust.

Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Collections Manager to join the National Curatorial and Conservation team.

The National Trust looks after places that showcase the work of some of the world's most recognised and celebrated artists, architects, designers and master craftsmen and were homes to some of the most renowned individuals in British history such as Winston Churchill, Bess of Hardwick, and Beatrix Potter.

This role will lead for collections management standards, integrating our audience-led approach into policy and practice.

What it's like to work here

Reporting to the Head of Collections Management and Information, you will help shape our approach to collections management, drive innovation and ensure the effective internal communication of our strategy, policies, procedures.

You will work alongside national specialists for collections management, curatorial, conservation, operations, visitor experience, security, learning and development and work collaboratively with colleagues in our property and regional/country teams.

You'll enjoy a demanding and varied workload where no two days are the same and thrive on the difference and impact you can make by providing practical advice and support on how to deliver our strategy on the ground.

Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon or potentially one of our regional hub offices and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

Regular travel to our Head Office in Swindon and London offices will be required, as well as to sites across England, Wales and NI.

What you'll be doing

As the lead for Collections Management Standards you'll undertake a review of our current practice identifying opportunities to innovate and evolve our approach, informed by your understanding of day-to-day operational issues.

You'll be able to think strategically and to develop and communicate effectively to a range of audiences.

This role has a particular focus on supporting and shaping the professional development offer for our Collections and House Job Family and colleagues working with collections – who are collectively the largest community of practice in a UK heritage organisation.

You'll also provide expert collections management advice on complex issues and major work programmes, including embedding the collections management learning and outputs from our transformative ‘Discovery Houses' programme.
