Salary Circa: £50,000

Due to growth, we have an exciting opportunity for an Accounting & Reporting Specialist to join our team based in York.

A bit about the job:

The primary purpose of the role is as an in-house advisor to the Aviva Group, supporting the overall objectives of Aviva's technical advisory and policy centre of excellence, to deliver best in class advisory support to the Group on a wide range of transactions, projects, and queries.

As well as partnering the Business in making financial and business decisions, you will advise on the application of group accounting policy and key judgements in determining how complex transactions are reported externally in a fair, balanced, and understandable way.

This role also involves being at the forefront of corporate reporting developments including the Group's Sustainability strategy.

You will be asked to leverage financial accounting and reporting skills in developing policy and methodologies to support current and future sustainability reporting requirements, including implementation of ISSB standards, UK government greening finance initiatives, climate transition planning, and TCFD disclosures.

  • Form judgements (with support from senior team members) on complex accounting matters of high commercial importance to the Group and take them through appropriate governance.
  • Influence the development of Sustainability, climate, and other non-financial reporting policies.
  • Identify senior stakeholders and develop engagement plan needed to resolve complex judgements.
  • Supporting the TAP team objectives and keep the Group safe through high quality, insightful, fair, and balanced financial reporting.
  • Providing accounting advisory support on a range of transactions, projects, and queries (including sustainability topics) typical for a large composite insurance undertaking.
  • Engagement and issue resolution with external audit on technical accounting matters.
  • Engagement with stakeholders across the business to debate the issues and agree a recommended approach.

Skills and experience we're looking for:

  • Preparation of technical accounting papers to the Group and Market Financial Reporting Committee supporting quarterly reporting cycles, ad hoc transactions (including M&A and capital projects) and technical accounting issues.
  • Continuous management of effective planning to facilitate key deliverables to various timescales, including short turnarounds for ad hoc advisory support and longer-term planning of deliverables across reporting cycles and deliveries across the full year.
  • Develop subject matter expert skills (with support from senior colleagues) with opportunities to develop task manager skills leveraging shared resource pool.
  • Contribute to updates to Group IFRS accounting policy and the Group Reporting Manuals.
  • Accounting qualification required (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) and an investment qualification would be an advantage to have (IOC, CFA or equivalent).

What you'll get for this role:

Our purpose - with you today, for a better tomorrow - is a promise we make to our colleagues too. And one of the ways we live up to that promise is by investing in you. We have so much to offer when it comes to being an Aviva colleague.

  • Bonus opportunity of 10% of annual salary (actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva's)
  • Generous pension scheme - Aviva will contribute up to 14%, depending on what you put in.
  • 29 days holiday plus bank holidays, and you can choose to buy or sell up to 5 days.

  • Up to £1,200 of free Aviva shares per year through our Matching Share Plan and share in the success of Aviva with our Save As You Earn scheme.
  • Brilliantly supportive policies including parental and carer's leave.
