Public Affairs Lead

Our client is an independent organisation within the utilities market. An influential voice, they represent the interests of a large community, amongst great political scrutiny.

This Public Affairs Lead role will review challenges for society, including climate change by paving the way for innovative solutions and productivity in the utilities market so we can maintain our natural and built environment.

This role would suit a missions focused, public affairs expert with a strong foundation of knowledge or interest in transport, energy or water infrastructure, or another highly regulated market.

Overseeing and contributing to the Public Affairs team, the role is responsible for:

  • Creating and supporting external opportunities for policy positions and insight to be shared with decision makers and their networks
  • Leading the development and delivery of partnership strategies to expand influence and impact nationally and regionally
  • Managing the political monitoring approach across Whitehall
  • Overseeing the delivery of events including APPG events and round-tables
  • Overseeing development and delivery of influencing plans for policy campaigns
  • Supporting the workload and priorities of the Public Affairs Team
  • Providing advice as required to the Director on public affairs issues arising from papers to be submitted to Trustee Board and Council

To succeed in this policy position, you'll need:

  • Demonstrable experience of carrying out public affairs campaigns/influencing strategies in an in-house or agency setting
  • Strong policy thought leadership research ability and thorough knowledge of UK political processes
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills at senior level
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills (including producing briefing papers, short reports, representing policy positions)
  • Strong research skills, both quantitative and qualitative, as well as the knowledge of commissioning research
  • Programme/project management skills
  • Comfortable with an environment of continuous improvement and technology adoption

Our client operates a flexible and hybrid working environment. The nature of the role requires the post holder to be able to travel to Westminster at short notice.
