Head of Procurement

Role Overview

The Head of Procurement will be responsible for overseeing all procurement activities and leading a large team of Procurement professionals, taking overall responsibility for managing supplier relationships whilst developing strategic sourcing initiatives. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in FMCG manufacturing procurement management, strong leadership skills, and the ability to drive cost savings and operational efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities of this role include :

  • Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with the company's objectives.

  • Lead and manage the procurement team, providing guidance and support.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant regulations.

  • Supplier Management:

  • Manage relationships with key suppliers and negotiate contracts to secure the best terms.

  • Conduct regular supplier performance reviews and address any issues.

  • Identify and onboard new suppliers to diversify and strengthen the supply chain.

  • Cost Management:

  • Drive cost-saving initiatives and optimise procurement processes.

  • Monitor and analyse procurement spend to identify opportunities for savings.

  • Develop and manage the procurement budget.

  • Process Improvement:

  • Evaluate and improve procurement processes and systems.

  • Implement best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Lead projects to integrate new technologies and tools in procurement operations.

  • Risk Management:

  • Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Ensure business continuity through effective risk management practices.

  • Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other departments (e.g., finance, operations, and legal) to ensure alignment and support business objectives.

  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on procurement activities and performance

Key Attributes of the successful candidate include :

  • Commercially astute with an excellent understanding of procurement practices and of the current and future needs of a major player in the FMCG sector and or Manufacturing Sector
  • People Management Experience, interpersonal skills, ability to manage multiple stakeholders * Strong analytical, organisational, problem solving, influencing &, decision making skills
  • Risk management and contingency planning skills * Proficient to build, lead, influence and manage business strategies.
  • CIPS Qualified.
  • Knowledge of Strategic Sourcing/Category Management and Procurement Technology.
  • Experience in Procurement transformation.
  • Experience/background in Commodities ideally including risk management policies and futures trading/hedging.
  • Skilled in Supplier Relationship Management with Strategic Suppliers.
