Job Overview:
We seek a motivated Perioperative Nurse (Band 5) for the Pre-Assessment Clinic at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The role involves conducting complex and non-complex pre-assessments for elective surgeries, ensuring safe, effective patient care throughout the pre-operative process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform thorough pre-operative assessments for elective patients using standardized questionnaires.
  • Deliver safe care within equality and diversity guidelines, ensuring a secure environment for patients, relatives, and staff.
  • Make clinical decisions autonomously, seeking support as needed and recognizing limitations.
  • Refer patients for further assessments or treatments as required for surgical optimization.
  • Provide patients with detailed information on planned treatments and post-operative care, addressing concerns or escalating as needed.
  • Identify discharge issues to enable safe and timely post-surgical discharges.
  • Report incidents or risks to the manager and document via the Datix system.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills for effective liaising at all levels.
  • Supervise junior staff and collaborate within the perioperative team for efficient service delivery.

Key Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration.
  • Experience in a perioperative or surgical setting is desirable.
  • Proficient in clinical assessments and decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Familiarity with NICE guidelines and trust protocols is advantageous.
