Job Title: Practice Accountant
Location: Bedford (with some travel to Huntingdon)
Salary: £28,000 - £35,000 (with some flexibility)
Type: Full-time, Office-based (plan to introduce hybrid in the near future)

About our client: They are a small but expanding firm of accountants based in Bedford, with additional offices in Huntingdon and support from a dedicated team in India. They provide comprehensive accounting services, with a strong emphasis on personal tax and a growing portfolio of limited companies and owner-managed businesses (OMBs). They are committed to offering personalised service and building strong client relationships.

Role Overview: Our client is looking for a qualified, part-qualified or QBE Practice Accountant to join their Bedford office. This role is essential in managing client accounts, ensuring timely and accurate accounts preparation, and delivering high-quality service as their client base continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accounts for a diverse portfolio of clients, including individuals, limited companies, and OMBs.
  • Manage personal tax returns and provide expert advice during client consultations.
  • Handle bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, and transactional accounting for various clients.
  • Oversee and manage workload distribution between Bedford, Huntingdon, and our team in India.
  • Support and mentor junior staff, including skilled apprentices and generalist bookkeepers
  • Conduct new client consultations
  • Contribute to the firm's strategic growth, particularly in expanding their limited company client base.

Requirements:

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, AAT, or equivalent), or qualified by experience (QBE).
  • Recent UK practice experience, with strong skills in accounts preparation and personal tax.
  • Experience in bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, and transactional accounting.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple clients and deadlines.
  • Proactive, team-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills.
