Job Type: Full time (Monday - Friday) 8:30am-3:30pm

Contract Type: Temporary, Term Time Only

Daily Rate: £85-£100 a day.

Start Date: September 2024

Veritas Education is currently recruiting for Youth Support Workers (YSW) in Kirklees to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a specialist school. You will be joining a team of experienced SEN teachers and Behaviour Support Workers.

As a Support Worker your role will mainly be supporting primary and secondary age students experiencing social, emotional, and mental health needs, whilst managing their behaviour too. You will be based in a provision that supports students with SEN, SEMH and complex behaviours.

You will be using your own skills and knowledge to help build relationships with students and learners, deal with challenging and at-risk behaviour, and to help support them with their needs to the best of your ability.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to students with challenging behaviour, implementing personalised strategies to address and manage their specific needs.
  • Work collaboratively with the school's multidisciplinary team to develop and implement behaviour management plans, ensuring a consistent and positive approach.
  • Effectively handle and de-escalate crisis situations by using Level 2 Team Teach strategies, employing proven strategies to maintain a safe and secure environment for both students and staff.
  • Establish strong rapport with students, fostering trust and promoting positive relationships to enhance student's social and emotional well-being.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to create a cohesive support network for students, ensuring a holistic and integrated approach to their development.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of student progress, behavioural incidents, and interventions, and contribute to regular reviews and assessments.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience supporting adults and/or children with SEN/SEMH is essential.
  • Personal experience supporting a family member with SEN/SEMH is also valued.
  • Level 2 Team Teach is essential, although this training can be offered by Veritas.
  • Safeguarding training is essential, although this training can be offered by Veritas.
  • GCSE English and Maths is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of SEN is essential.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and patience are crucial. The ability to handle challenging situations with calm and professionalism is a must.
  • A dedication to improving the lives of students with complex needs and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to adapt to the varying needs of students and the school environment.
  • A moving and handling qualification is preferred.
  • Candidates must hold or be willing to apply for an enhanced DBS upon registration.
  • Have proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
