Responsible Investment Manager

Role Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Responsible Investment (RI) Manager to join the team and carry out the scheme's research and stewardship activities focussing on climate change, nature and biodiversity, and providing strong support on other areas. The role will contribute to ensuring that Nest's reporting, proxy voting and engagement activities continue to be delivered to a high standard and in line with its ESG investment beliefs, policies and regulatory requirements.

The role will require an excellent understanding of ESG issues and themes, stewardship strategies including proxy voting and engagement, and general responsible investment in the UK. The successful candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to foster and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including Nest's fund managers.

The successful candidate will report to the Head of Sustainability Strategy and will work closely with other members of the responsible investment team and wider investment team. The role will also provide the opportunity to engage with a wide range of stakeholders including Trustees, investee companies, external investment managers, asset owner peers, and policymakers.

Whilst this is a full-time role, Nest is open to and supportive of job sharing, flexible working and providing excellent job opportunities to individuals returning from career breaks. Members of the investment team spend around two days per week working from our office in Canary Wharf.

Nest Invest is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). For the role holder, this means working in a regulated entity, and being required to adhere to certain rules and behaviours included in the FCA's Code of Conduct (COCON), specifically the individual Conduct Rules defined by the FCA.

Directorate/Department Overview

The Nest Invest team is responsible for investing members' contributions in order to grow their retirement pots over the long-term.The responsibilities of the team include:

  • Asset allocation and portfolio risk management
  • Manager selection and monitoring
  • Responsible investment
  • Investment communications
  • Fund administration
  • Investment technology and financial modelling
  • Contributing to the development of the investment proposition

The Responsible Investment team is a small and dynamic team that sits within the in-house investment team. Its primary purposes are to develop and manage the scheme's approach to ESG and stewardship and formulate recommendations on policy and investment strategy that will benefit and enhance the investment approach.

The in-house Investment team is likely to grow significantly over the coming years. Our assets under management are growing exponentially and we are predicted to be one of the biggest pension schemes in the UK in the next 10 years. Nest is diversifying its asset allocation at pace and is looking to invest in a number of new exciting and sophisticated asset classes.

The successful candidate will report to the Head of Sustainability Strategy and will work closely with other members of the Responsible investment team and wider investment team
