Renewables Designer

Calisen is expanding its range of activities in line with its mission to deliver Smarter Energy for All. Plug Me In – Heat is Calisen's first step into low carbon heat and establishing a nationwide heat pump business.

As a Renewables Designer will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimising air source heat pump systems. Your expertise and attention to detail will be crucial in creating efficient and sustainable designs that meet project requirements and industry standards

The installation of heat pumps, combined with its existing EV charging and smart meter services, will reinforce Calisen's role in helping to roll-out energy transition assets in support of Net Zero. The new addition to Calisen's family will allow a wider range of customers to manage their own journeys to Net Zero and help achieve Calisen's targets for a greener and cleaner environment.

What our Renewables Designer will receive;

  • £38,000 - £45,000 salary dependant on experience.
  • Performance bonus.
  • 30 Days holiday incremental to 33 days with yearly service (inclusive of Bank holidays)

Your main responsibilities will include;

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of project requirements and develop detailed designs for air source heat pump systems. This includes selecting appropriate components, radiators, pumps, and integrating them into the system design.
  • Utilise your knowledge to perform technical calculations related to system performance, energy efficiency, and capacity requirements. Ensure that designs align with project specifications and industry best practices.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate equipment and materials based on project requirements, efficiency considerations, and cost-effectiveness. Conduct research to stay updated with the latest technologies and advancements in air source heat pump systems.
  • Stay abreast of relevant codes, standards, and regulations related to air source heat pump systems. Ensure that designs comply with safety, environmental, and energy efficiency guidelines.
  • Create detailed design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports. Maintain accurate records of design changes, calculations, and project progress. Present findings and recommendations to project stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the technical survey and design process.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement improvements and ensure seamless coordination between surveying, design, and installation phases.
  • Take responsibility for identifying any technical issues that may arise during the installation phase, based on the completed design. Collaborate with installation teams and project stakeholders to promptly address and resolve these issues, ensuring that they do not impact project timelines or quality standards.

What we look are looking for in a Renewable Designer;

  • Experience within the heating/plumbing industry
  • Experience in Domestic heating installations
  • Proven experience in designing air source heat pump systems or similar systems
  • Proficiency in relevant design software and tools e.g. heat engineer, heat punk
  • Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulations related to air source heat pump system
  • Have no unspent criminal convictions – must pass basic criminal record check
  • Proven eligibility to work in the UK
